Summer Reading

Before you go on summer vacation, check a good book from the library! Make a stack of novels and informational texts to enjoy during  leisure time.

Enjoy your quiet time,  visit with characters, learn something from them and about them.

You can pick up a reading log and track your progress there, join any free online program announced by Scholastic or Barnes & Nobles. Check if your public library offers any program during this summer.  WBAIS will be open on July 10, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. You can change books if you are around.

At WBAIS, we invite you to keep track of titles you will have read and write them down on colorful strips of paper. We'll make a Summer Reading Chain when come back from our summer break in August.

Add your name so we can recognize avid readers during Library Read Week in Fall.

Here are several tips to keep yourself reading:
1. Set up 30min-1hour a day for reading
2. Twit 140 characters about what you are reading
3. Post the cover of the book you are reading on Facebook and share your opinion.
4. Recommend a book on library catalog Destiny to your friend.

Library Technology Week 2014

March 10-14 is Library Technology Week (LTW) that celebrates library digital collections and services. Librarians modify their services and create new deliveries of information.

At WBAIS, we have a rich collection of databases that our students use to find academic articles for their research projects. We offer audio- and e-books that enrich our print collection.

 Do It Yourself @ Your Library

The motto "Do It Yourself @ Your Library" encourages creativity and recognizes it as a highest level of learning objectives.

How can you participate?

• Create an avatar or a digital story about your library or school event with one of the digital resources. Submit your product to LTW Evaluation Committee to  win a coupon to cafeteria (send the link or the picture to mbrodsky@wbais.net). FYI: Free Avatar Makers
• Share a sentence about your favorite technology: an audio book or e-book you've recently read or listened, a gadget, App, database, other technology. You can record it, choose in the poll, or stop by and tell your librarians in the library.
• Find a QR code hidden in the library. Use your iPhone and QR Reader application to read the codes in the library - click here to choose one that best suits your device.
• Recommend a book to your friends via Library Catalog (log in with your PowerSchool credentials)
• Read book recommendations
• Join us in the library during lunch time to see the Robot created by the Robotics crew in action.

Library Tech Week 2009

You can't go wrong with the Where the Wild Things Are theme!

Elementary students

Elementary classes came to the library prepared. Each grade brought their own Wild Thing to present us their creativity.

Kids appreciated teachers and administrators reading their favorite books at every lunch during the whole week.

Technology inspired us to participate in a global collaborative project. Kids built digital books with students from other NESA schools with Storybird.com.

Middle and High School

Secondary students appreciated reading and library services at Library Tech Cafe that was opened the whole week for Middle and High school students in the library hall. Everyone could spend here their lunch and free period reading, playing chess and computer games or talking to their friends.

One of the distinguished activities during the week was a meeting of a HS book club students to discuss Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. Ms. Rose (Aviva Rosenzweig) was amazing at leading the conversation.

Library Week

This week is the Library Week. It is devoted to communication and interactive technologies.

You are invited to visit Library Tech Exhibition that reflects students' use of Web tools and technology in the Library and class: blogs, podcasts, videos, PowerPoint Presentations.

To broaden our students' view of the world and let them see AIS as the member of the Near East and South Asia Council of Overseas Schools, a webpage Greetings from NESA librarians was created. A special 'thank you' is awarded to Kirk Peterson (Udhailiah School Library, Saudi Arabia) for being the first to share his lesson plans.

Please show the blog Book Reviews and Recommendations to your students and enclurage them to participate in it!
